Imagine a place where children can help solve their own problems by talking around a “peace table” and apologizing. A place where a child’s opinions can be expressed freely, taken seriously and truly matter. A place where children clean up after themselves and not because it is considered a chore, but the way their world functions. A place where if a child needs a “body break” they take one, if a child is hungry they have a snack, if a child is thirsty they get a drink, all because it is considered their right as a person to do these things when their body tells them it is needed. A place where children of different ages can work together on a level playing field without a thought of competition. A place in which a child naturally learns to feel a certain responsibility towards their environment and is called to its cause. You don’t need to imagine this place - It exists. It is called Maria Montessori School. All this and more waits for your child.

Maria Montessori School was created in 1997 by a group of parents dedicated to the idea of Montessori education into the elementary years.  Originally, there were two groups of parents; one to start the elementary program, and the other started the Casa program.  These two groups worked together to create a school where Montessori education was available from the youngest pre-school through the elementary years, including grade eight.

Five years later, Maria Montessori staff and the Board of Directors began strategic planning discussions for the school. After many discussions and meetings, concrete decisions were made to formulate the school's mission statement.  In the spring of 2003, the original strategic framework and action plan was struck which continues to guide our efforts for achieving Maria Montessori School's mission.
